Amazon and many others are Premier Merchants, which I believe only amount to glorified banner placements. No e-commerce revenue.

Guru.

No, they are not similar. AOL charges both Barnes and Nobles and Amazon fees to be on their sites. Amazon pays to be on AOL.com and Barnes and Noble pays to be on AOL's proprietary service. These are exclusive deals. Yahoo can not sell an exclusive deal, since any one can sell on their site.
Amazon runs ads on Yahoo. If someone clicks on that ad, then buys a book at Amazon then Yahoo would get a commission.
This is Amazons associate program which is available to anyone.
This is already included in the "insignificant revenue" number.

You mentioned the Barnes & Noble deal with AOL to compare it to Yahoo shopping.
Yahoo has Amazon deals both here and internationally. E-commerce deals were 26% of
Yahoo's revenues in Q3, amounting to $14 million.

Let's see YHOO had revenues of $14 million in e-commerce deals in Q3 and AOL receives $10 million alone from BKS per year. AOL also has Europes Bertelmans as the exlusive bookseller.
