Happy New Year Frank,

I come away with a different take on that article. What I read is that
the"Demise of independent graphic card companies" means that companies
such as Hercules will have a tough time competing because there are
less chip companies (like S3) to choose from. I believe what they are talking about are companies that build boards only and do not have their own IP (such as STB and Hercules).

As far as integration goes we will have to wait and see. Cyrix has
had a product out for a long time with very limited success. Intel
has been trying for years to integrate modem functions in the CPU's
and now they want to do sound and graphics. Like I said in my
previous post I believe that product will be in the low end systems.
As processor speed increases so does the requirements of the OS and
other software. I agree that within the next 3-5 years multimedia
CPU's will be common but I believe that graphics companies that
have their own board manufacturing will be around for quite a while.
In any case if S3 designs this chip on a chip they will be competing
with Intel, Cyrix and other established CPU companies. Could be a
tough for them to compete even with the Intel relationship.

As far as you being detained, sorry to hear that and I hope everything
worked out. It's your timing that is the issue then. Anyway Good luck.
