I would NEVER buy anything on Ebay. For one main reason- I refuse to give a percentage of an agreed on price to Ebay, Inc when I have no guarantees that the person selling me the item is not going to rip me off. Do you know how many scam artists used to be all over the alt.forsale usenet groups? They've all moved to Ebay.

Now if Sotheby's had an online auction service where they guaranteed authenticity, or AT LEAST ESCROW SERVICE, then I would gladly pay a fee to use their site. But Ebay offers nothing except the chance for someone to rip me off- and then they expect to get paid a percentage even if I get shafted!

Forget it. If I want to sell my Furby tea-caddy, I'll just post on a usenet newsgroup.
