As regards to the wash rule could someone confirm my hope that this does not fall into that category:

If one buys security x and sells all the shares at a gain and within the 31 day period repurchases the security then winds up selling at a loss (alas).

I am under the impression that it is a wash sale if you first sell at a loss and them repurchase within the 31 days (before or after the sale) but what about the reverse?

Thanks.

Colin,

Thanks for the help. I'll try and find the passage that relates to Mark to Market and self employment tax. It does sound a bit bizarre. Maybe I just dreamed it.

Thanks again.
