I had my friend who needed a machine get one about a month ago. It's nothing fancy, but is exactly what's needed to get the job done (everything but 3D gaming-- the graphics is the integrated SIS 2D). The parts may be the most inexpensive ones available (bigfoot drive, and I think softmodem), but at least I don't have to worry about recommending Compaq.

Ado Electronic To Sell 500-Dollar PC With 300MHz Processor

TOKYO (Nikkei)--Ado Electronic Industrial Co. (8073) has begun sales of a personal computer featuring a 300MHz CyrixMII-PR300 microprocessor in the firm's line of 500-dollar Velocity computers.

The firm is selling the upgraded computer, which previously had a 266MHz processor, through its corporate-sales division and the T-Zone personal computer discount chain.

The PC is priced at 69,800 yen by itself or 89,800 yen with a 15-inch monitor.

Ado Electronic is also offering the machine with a setup service for 100,000 yen. Aimed at new users, the service provides a home visit by an instructor, who does everything from setting up the computer to connecting it to the Internet.

Craig,

It looks like Compaq has a new Cyrix model with MII-333, instead of 300:
