Jay AND Others:

In today's NY Times, Op/Ed page, an editorial appears addressing "Customers and Cyberspace". The editorial notes the increase of e-commerce, cites some optimistic forecasts of internet-based retail sales, and opines that it may be several years before "e-tailing comes close to the volume of sales done through mail-order catalogues."

This last point introduces the view espoused in the editorial: that people, although they may browse a catalogue on-line, still tend to order by telephone rather than by computer. On-line security and the relative newness of on-line shopping are proffered as reasons why we grab the phone or even travel to the store rather than click the mouse.

"Fears about sending credit card numbers over the Internet may be a factor. But a lot of consumers obviously think that talking to a sales clerk is an indispensable part of the hassle. At least for now, most of them prefer a live human to an electronic mouse."

And this, folks, is one considerable reason why TSIG is well-positioned (or, positioning itself) to be a serious player in e-commerce retail. The teleservices capacity of TSIG is a distinct advantage, and I sincerely hope that TSIG is intensively - and comprehensively - training their teleservices people, who will play an integral part in TSIG's success.
