A Thomson/DirecTV win would be a nice announcement................... CES.................................... cesweb.org. Thomson will introduce a new, fourth-generation DIRECTV system, highlighted by a sleeker, more compact design with the ability to receive more than 200 channels of digital satellite programming. "DIRECTV is partnering with a number of television manufacturers to develop HDTV sets with the DIRECTV system receiver built in," said Eddy Hartenstein, president of DIRECTV. "These partnerships will give consumers an all-in-one digital television solution combining standard and high definition DIRECTV programming with local digital broadcasts." The company's set-top box side of the business has just been appointed to develop technology for next-generation DirecTV in the US and also for British Digital Broadcasting in the UK.
