Pat.. didn't notice the initial coincidence. I understand the extortion argument. Some argue that Clinton is being pursued with political extortion. However, lets drop the political parallel and only discuss Cosby and Autumn. One could opinion, from scant reading of some newspaper articles, Autumn Jackson had a hopeful and real belief that Cosby could be her father, providing of course that her mother wasn't collaborating with her to extort, which I don't believe she was accused of, or that her mother filled her with fantasy to avoid the heartache of a single parent single child relationship. One could also hazard that given the nominal support and contact by Cosby with Autumn's mother, the notion of Cosby being her father was subtly reinforced as she grew up. In either case, for a young girl growing up not knowing who her father is Cosby was a strong and good paternal image she could imagine having. The frustration of getting feedback from her mother and what she took as inferential feedback from Cosby providing some support, could have created anger. Many children act out the frustrations of a parent or compound it with their own, trying to make-right a wrong when they first come of age. Literature is full of kids trying to undo the wrongs they perceive having been done to their parents. Extortion can begin as an emotional frustration isn't satisfied.. so the frustration is raised to a higher level, one of demanding attention. Demanding that something be done "or else" something will be said or revealed, or something will be done. The frustration turns to a threat. If she was attempting to extort the truth, or using the truth to extort money we'll never know, some say it doesn't matter once that threshold is crossed. We do know she attempted to extort money. It obvious Cosby's fame and legal weight exceeds Autumn's. Once initiated, the progress of accusation could only end up as her being found guilty. Like some other arguments, the case wasn't about paternity, it was about breaking the law. After the case had been tried and she was found guilty a spokesperson stepped forward saying he would volunteer a dna test to end the charade. But at that point she was already sentenced. This is not to argue that Cosby is the father or that he did anything wrong, indeed he did everything properly. It is to argue that had there been more compassion at the time, given Autumn's history as a child, one might have discreetly arranged to conclude the paternity question using dna in private, thus avoiding the court matter and need for extortion in the first place. ...the times were stressful and sad and one has to admire how he's carried on with his life.
