The networking bubble burst a few years ago.

Some big ones left standing like LU, Tlab, and CSCO. Many other have floundered, Fore, WSTL, HLIT, to name a few.

Your numbers about 1000% annual backbone growth meaning that everyone in the US will be spending 8 hrs per day on the Internet by 2005: You appear to assume than everyone will be using 28kb modems in 2005. Not likely. I went from 28k to 500k last January. That is 2000% increase in my demand on the Internet backbone if I don't change my access hours. It isn't what you don't know that gets you into trouble; it's what you know . . . that's wrong!
