Jake, Thanks for the article. The long view certainly is an optimistic look at the years ahead. Certainly it adds confidence to long positions in those technology companies that establish the standards going into the millenium.

Stay long MSFT,CSCO,INTC. Enjoy the moment in AOL, DELL and WCOM.

Happy New Year,
Tom

This year will be a turning point for these hi tech stocks, the direction is up and up.
When these analysts said the market will not go up forever , it is the time to buy.
There is always some reasons for the market to go up. The shipment of PCs will continue to grow fast, so these PCs need to be linked up together, which means more
applications, e-commerce, networking (home) , ...etc. So , 1999 will b a turning point. Which school are you having you graduate study ? I am a graduate student too.

Jake, I can't figure out why so much time is being spent on technical analysis. It all seems like a lot of garbage to me (no offense). If I was strictly a stock investor, I would just ignore it. I only look at it when I trade options (ie short term)
I can't understand that Dow Transport theory (they have to hit highs when the dow hits high). Bob Pisani on CNBC brings it up all the time.
It all sounds so dumb to me! What a stupid "theory". I wonder who comes up with these. Then there is the "market breadth". I won't get into that one for now.

There are probably a lot of strategists at the big brokerages insisting that we have to retest the lows. Why????
They just try to forecast the future with historical data. No wonder most mutual fund managers can't outperform the index. They probably have the same type of educated idiots as the brokerages. They pay attention to this kind of non sense.

This is why I like Abbey Joseph Cohen of Goldman Sachs --- she goes by the fundamentals. This makes sense!!!

BTW, This is not a shot at your reasoning for markets going higher. You just reminded me of what I feel about technical analysis.
I was buying call options in October right til that day when Nas was down 100 points and finished down only 60 (or -40 I am not sure).
The second best trading period of the year for me.
The market will go a lot higher --- on fundamentals.

Be sure to check your star charts, too. Is Saturn in the house of Pluto? <vbg>

Jake,

Hope you're right about the market trending up, that's what I'm
betting on. I'm just thinking that many, like me, waited to take
capital gains in 1999, and we'll see stocks pressured to begin
the year. Hope I'm wrong, because I've decided to let my profits
run, and wait and see.
