Dan,

I have read that using a external TA, the speed is limited in the 90-95 kbps range due to serial port restrictions. What do you know about that?

Dan,

Actually, the serial port limitation is 115K vs. the internal rate of 128K. I use a 3Com IQ Impact external TA. I never have any problems, and always get 115K.

Regards,
Steven

Yikes, that doesn't look good for Internal ISDN TA's under NT. How about a Courier? That is probably my next try. Or I may just buy a Pipeline 50 or 75 and call it good. Are any of the other routers any good? There are always a bunch of them reasonably priced on ebay. Maybe I'd take a chance if it was a deal

Netgear RH348 ISDN Router is good.
Cisco 76X, 77X, 800 series are feature rich and robust but more expensive.
Others that seem useful include Zyxel and the 3com office connect line.

The Netgear currently looks like the best value.

I personally have Cisco 1004 running IOS 11.2 Enterprise. (Expensive and has lots of features that you will never care about) Has no analog ports.

true, you can buy high speed serial though...

So you are ripping under NT? With which software? Audio Catalyst seems to do a good job under 98. You mention that not all CRdoms are the same, how much difference would I notice between a MP3 you rip on your Plextor and one off my generic CDrom? Maybe I'll end up buying a Plextor. :) Is the Plextor you have still the best one to get for ripping or is there something better out now?

I use Adaptec Easy CD Creator 3.X for that last year and a half.

Main difference is Speed. I can rip 70+ min of audio is less than 5 minutes and do so reliable on scratched media etc with good luck. Don't know what the current state of the art. All the CDR sites are good resources.
