Mesaba, I agree. Long ago I thought all hard disks would be solid state (memory chips only) since it has no moving parts, is resistant to shock, and is lightning fast. But hard drives surprised me. They got faster and faster, closing the gap on memory speed, are much more shock resistant and the prices have plummeted in relation to flash memory.

I remember the old days, when if you knocked into a table hard, the hard drive would crash. Those days are over. Now they have rugged ones that can fit into cameras. Hard drives will be with us for many years.
