Polymet releases Dunka Road pilot plant test results

Tue 5 Jan 99 News Release
Mr. Donald Gentry reports
Initial results have been received from the metallurgical pilot plant test
program performed by Lakefield Research Laboratories on drill cuttings
produced from the company's 14 hole reverse circulation drilling program at
its Dunka Road project.
A total of 26 tons of drill cuttings was processed through the pilot plant
on a continuous basis over 42 hours. Data pertaining to the feed (head)
grade, minerals recoveries and bulk concentrate grade are provided in the
following table.

Cu% Ni% Co% Au Ag Pt Pd
g/t g/t g/t g/t
-----------------------------------------
Feed (Head) Grade

0.43 0.12 0.009 0.06 1.48 0.08 0.37

Mineral Recoveries (%)

93.7 77.1 46.4 76.6 69.9 76.4 75.8

Bulk Concentrate Grade

15.5 3.69 0.149 2.80 41.5 2.49 11.1

Results from the pilot plant testing program show the mineral recoveries
obtained to be superior to those achieved by Amax in the late 1970s and
Nerco in 1991. The relatively high grade concentrate produced exhibited
good recoveries of both base and precious metals, weighing about 2.5 per
cent of the original ore. The resulting concentration ratio was 40:1. This
significantly enhances the potential for subsequent metals recovery
operations to be economically viable.
The primary objective of the pilot plant test program was to produce a bulk
concentrate for further downstream metallurgical testing by both pressure
oxidation and bioleaching. This testing will begin shortly.
