Paul, RE:"Cringe - Re: "Who cares? You and I do, but not the typical consumer. As Jim says, "MHz Sells"." Intel MHz sells. (TM PR Engel) AMD MHz drops in price .".... ---- Now that Intel has played its trump card, the Celeron 400, early, it's time for AMD to up the ante....with the K6-2-433 and 450. Mid-January at the latest don't you think? Intel will be handcuffed unless they want to have another surprise upping of the Celeron speed and further cannibalize their margins and the Pentium II...love that small die size....400 Celeron system offered today at CompUSA. BTW, anyone know if the 400 is 4x100 or 6x66? HP would love the K6-2-433 (6.5x66) since they can pack the box with cheap 66 MHz ram etc...we know MHz sells (TM-Jim McMannis) don't we Paul. Watch the TM infringement there Paul! <G> K6-3 will be pegged against the Katmai. Rumor has it that the Katmai will be introduced during the Super bowl...so that should give the boys at AMD a time frame to introduce the K6-3. Late January would be nice... AMD will get some higher ASPs on the K6-3 but it seems that with the Celeron 400 systems selling Sub-1000 and the K6-2 soon to be bumped to 450, that the real battle will be fought at the low end. But with the K6-3 and soon to be K7 going after Intels Gravy, may well be that AMD will Intel will no longer have the sacred high end margin....so slowly, the battle field will change to the higher end. Will AMD be able to "gut shot" Intel with the K6-3 and then go for the head with the K7 in March? Well, they have gone from no chance to know making the ammo... You know it. You won't even make an "even up" bet that Intel will appreciate more than AMD this year. You want a "point for point" bet. You essentially want "odds". Since when does Intel need "odds"? Seems you are more bullish on AMDs propects than you are letting on? More bullish on AMD than Intel? Wow, Paul, I'm impressed! All the best, Jim PS..."Gateway buy chips for vendors on the net?" A HOOT!? Sounds like you've got your face in the HOOTers again...Sure Paul, Gateway buy a couple hundred thou K6-2-400s from vendors off the net. Sure. AMD couldn't come through and Intel rescued themselves with the Celeron 400, at least for a while. Gateway will have some K6 boxes sonn, if they want a shop at the K7...
