It was reported in BW that Kleiner had put Bezos and Bert together, but Bezos decided to
go it alone

James,

This is the key in my opinion. The success of the stock price of AMZN went to Bezo's head. I suspect he believed he no longer needed Kleiner Perkins and can do as sees fit. I suspect the Kleiner Perkins group was disgusted with Bezos after he declined to partner with Bertellmans. Kleiner Perkin keeps their firms as a family and now Amazon is disowned.

Since the Beterlmann's announcement of an alliance with Barnes and Noble, there have been a variety of factors that have gone wrong for Amazon that have not kicked in as of yet.

1. Barnes and Noble shortly thereafter became the exclusive bookseller on AOL in Europe and that is a big market.

2. Kleiner Perkins sold a significant number of their AMZN shares dueing the insider selling window. I anticipate they will do the same during the next window.

3. Barnes and Noble came an agreement to buy Ingrahms which is Amazon's largest supplier. We are just waiting on DOJ approval there.

These occurances happened in rapid order.
