It wasn't tongue in cheek... just an observation that the initial reports of something like this are not always what they appear to be. For example, should some India link to the rebels be found, that might make things a lot worse. Also, since both India and Pakistan have recently set off weapons of mass distruction... need I say more? But the point is, no matter how well we contrive the future, the Murphy laws seem always to get in our way!

Dave, I wouldn't be too worried about Pakistani/Idian nuclear exchanges. Two of Pakistan's recent bomb tests were apparently fizzles. But beyond that, Nuclear weapons are generally meant as defensive weapons meant to prevent a war of conquest against them. M.A.D (Mutually Assured Destruction) is a tough game to play and there are no winners. But what is does achieve, minus an accidental nuclear exchange, is a general guarantee that any war will be limited, and not total. Why do you think that so many countries, including Israel, have pursued or developed them?? It translates into security for their regimes and grudging respect from their neighbors(who then develop programs to build them). Problem is.. until they develop Hydrogen Bomb capability with mega-ton yields, the damage that is inflicted on a country is relatively easy to repair. Look at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those explosions ended WWII, but they sure didn't utterly destroy Japan. When the propaganda from India and Pakistan start resembling that of N. Korea, then we can be afraid. Regards, Ron
