Could i contract
to pack a million
friggin books
and do it on my
own time...<G>

Nope. Because:

You would be using Amazon.com warehouses, and
You would be expected to be there at a certain time and leave at a certain time, and
You would be supervised by Amazon.com managers, and
You would probably be using Amazon.com boxes, packing tape, and mailing labels, and
You would probably not be packing books for other booksellers, which is another test of whether you are a contractor or an employee.

So since you don't pass any of the tests of being a contractor, the IRS and the U.S. Dept. of Labor would certainly deem you to be an employee of Amazon.com.
