David,

When and if you write a new book (you should) Y2K, The day After, I give you permission to use my alias in your book, as one Kid who refused to get caught up in this looney hoarding frenzy. Its' getting crazy.

You know the scary part, people are stocking up on items they don't even know how to use. Just say there are power outages, just for argument sake, say power outages lasting a couple hours, people are going to be burning their houses down, because of candles and other heating items, dying of CO poisoning, having their homes broke into (because their hoarding money and precious metals).

The frenzy will end, and they will be doing the same thing over again with another situation. Why isn't there any fuss over daylight savings time? How about leap years?

Computer interdependencies, blah blah blah, I have heard it all. I am still not concerned for my personal & families safety regarding Y2K. Not concerned at the least. If someone wants to pay my airfare, I would not have a problem flying either.

I have spent many hours testing & upgrading my personal and company machines & software to make sure they will be compliant. So once again I will say: I have never said there is no Y2K problem.

There are people on SI that are adding to the frenzy. Late fall we are going to see increased concern regarding Y2K, and most of these people don't know anything about computers.

Better safe than sorry....how far does one take this? This is turning into plain and simple MADNESS.

Keep up the great articles!

P.S.
I love following stories like this:

Remember during the Golf War, there were reports that months before the strike on Iraq the US supplied Iraq with printers with viruses? Do you remember that? It was a hoax:
kumite.com

The media will fall for anything. Problem is, once they are scammed, they don't admit it and thus the hoax continues to circulate. When a hoax is discovered it should be SQUASHED ASAP. You see this on a weekly basis, people sending each other e-mails warning not to download certain files because they are viruses in disguise. Nope they are just hoaxes being spread by people who don't know much about computers.

symantec.com
kumite.com

Just my opinion.

If people read this stuff below, every day, you will become paranoid. Some of these people are closed minded to look at the other side of the issue.
