Based on ORCL's hefty revival after its LINUX compatibility announcement, look for Jobs to make some moves in that direction.

Anyone care to guess how many posts we'll have to this thread between 12:00 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on 01/05? Couple hundred?

Mark,

Actually Mark, if that happens, that is going to scare me badly.

Re: Apple's increased market share hurts MS

Sorta reminds me of the story of David and Goliath or Jack and the Beanstalk, both giant killers. The ONLY way to deal with mean, angry, greedy giants is to topple them altogether. Too little too slow is too risky.

With that in mind, what potential scenario can we prognosticate? What is the stone in Apple's little sling shot that might cripple the opposition's aggressive offense? OSX? QT 4.0? G4? An as yet unannounced alliance?

Or is it going to be the race to the internet beanstalk that ruins the giants day? Apple can't chop down this beanstalk, but an adroit and clever move in this arena is more easily accomplished by the smaller of the two adversaries.

<<"All" guys like Ellison and Jobs have to do is sit around and continue to innovate, and sooner or later MSFT will wear down, disintegrate.>>

Sounds like the Cold War to me!

The U.S. had all the innovators and the Soviets just made crude copies en masse. You could say they were the Microsoft of Tanks and Boats and Planes.

However, our fighters were much more nimble than theirs with a kill ratio of 15 Migs for every U.S. fighter downed.

Still, they had the numbers edge and believe they could win.

It wasn't until Reagan upped the ante with new Strategic Defense Initiative technology that the Soviets eventually petered out. They couldn't innovate or copy fast enough!

What is Apple/Tech industry's SDI? PowerPC? Java?

With Linux, would this make the Mac OS almost invincible? Never count MS out. Whatever happens with the DOJ litigation, I think MS will be very cautious in future dealings.
I was very critical when Steve Jobs came on board but I have ,definitely, been proven wrong.
I hope not too many posts because I do not want to read through all of them although I exclude many right now.
Tomorrow will be interesting but I won't be surprise if there are no surprises.
