Why would your wife's hair dryer care what day it is?

<<P.S. For fun, last night I programmed my wife's hair dryer and the VCR ahead to 12/31/99. When I checked them this morning they both said 1/1/72. I guess that explains why my wife now has an Afro and I had taped an episode of the Mod Squad.>>

I have a Radio Shack programmers calculator that I bought in the late 1980's. It also has a calendar feature. You set the date, and it shows the day of week by putting an underline on one of the seven day symbols. I set this forward to 12/31/99, and waited for the next day. It showed the correct day of week for January 1, 2000. Then I advanced it to Feb 28, 2000 and again it showed the correct day of week for Feb 29, 2000.

My VCR does not have a calendar feature. You just set the day of week, and it cycles from Saturday back to Sunday and then through the week.

Not all old chips are defective.

Hair driers - I forgot hair driers!

I wonder if Coleman makes a kerosene hair drier. I just drug out my old Sears Model 1200. I bought it back in the seventies when I had long hair. It still works! Might be a good way to keep warm when the heat goes out. Speaking of the seventies, you must be as old as I am. The Mod Squad? Those were the days, my friend.

Jeff -

Hah! Loved that site (http://www.duh-2000.com). My favorite was:

Ken Orr is the guy behind the site.

In 1995 I asked Ken about the then preposterous Y2K guesstimate of $200 billion (just for the US) that Data Dimensions was floating... admitting that it was a SWAG, he said "More has actually been written about this subject than is actually known."

'Techweb: Microsoft Hit With First Y2K Suit
 Jan 4th, 13:11:33

"The class-action complaint, brought by one plaintiff, alleges Microsoft knowingly designed FoxPro and Visual FoxPro so that they could not properly handle the century change. The suit asks for Microsoft to notify all FoxPro and Visual FoxPro users of the problem and issue a corrective patch, as well as some punitive damages."
