But wasnt it like the cigarette companies? Only 1 of them admitted to actually doing anything harmful but they all agreed to pay money in lawsuits... ?

You are either misinformed or intentionally spreading false information. They admitted in the settlement to exactly what I posted earlier: "widespread fraud, price-fixing and collusion." Any simple archival search of WSJ for late 1997 will net you the story.
