It seems to me that ATHM's home page only really has value to the extent that it showcases the advantages of broadband. Even with my low opinion of the technical capailities of the average user I can't imagine that even the most incompetant won't figure out how to change his home page. Look at the overwhelming success of My Yahoo! which is not preintalled anywhere. (I love My Yahoo, probably 85% of my page views are Yahoo)
How much does the ATHM site promote the use of broadband?
On a related topic I've always assumed that ATHM will be providing broadband site hosting services, after all what better way to avoid the server & backbone bottleneck than to stay completely within the ATHM network? Anyone know if ATHM is doing this yet?
You'd also think that since they are going to be partially "mirroring" sites though their caching technology that they might be able to get income by being willing to keep a fully updated copy of a commercial site (essentially fully mirroring it) so that that site will have greater user appeal.
Any other ideas on misc income sources? Theres a lot more ways to get income than just basic user fees. I didn't know about charging a litle extra to allow a home network into the neighborhood network, cool idea.
