No one can accurately predict the future price of stocks, however, if we take the past as a model, the history may tell us something about the future market, but it may not
necessary be accurate. Back in Jan23 of 1998, the stock price of Microsoft was about
$68 ( we are now at $139 , Jan4th of 1999, if the stock split today, the price will
be somewhere around $69), so the stock price of Microsoft actually double in one year. Thinking about the big pull down of Microsoft price in October, can you imagine what will be Microsoft's stock price if such big pull down did not happen in Oct of 1998 ? My bet is $180+. So , the appreciation of Microsoft 's stock price actually accelerated in 1998, that is probably due to the release of win98.
So, looking forward of 1999, Win 98 will continue to carry Microsoft's earning to a high gear, and the expectation of win2000 in the second or third quarter, E-commerce will come big, we may see $80 in Mid Jan to early Feb after earnings,
and $100 after Apirl's earning. We may see $160 to $200 by the end of 1999 if
the Asia crisis is all behind and that we won't have a big pull back like 1998 . Of course , the cut of rate in 1999 will be another factor to push the stock price , and
the coming presidential election. All price above are split adjusted.
