Holly, Ish: I worry that isopropyl alcohol is too strong a solvent. I've seen keyboards (well, not the keys themse'ves, but the housing) go a little gooey. What works for me is to take a paper towel and get it wet with water and a hydrocarbon solvent (hexanes are best, but storeboughtten mineral spirits - paint thinner - are ok). This double-acting wipe takes off all the plaque and leaves a clean crisp keyboard. About those weird Jacques Cousteau ecosystematic weirdnesses living under the keys - ehey. Outta sight, outta mind. (Or just plain outta mind, thank you.)

Well, I did it. Or rather, my three-hole punch did it. Or maybe my husband did it, or didn't do it. He told me the nifty shelves he put over my computer wouldn't hold. But I figured he didn't really mean it, or else he would do it over. But the top shelf bracket broke loose from the drywall, and the three-hole punch fell on a full, sixteen-ounce cup of cafe au lait - - no sugar, thank God - - and knocked it all, all over the keyboard. I rescued the computer, and the software that was all over the floor dripping coffee, but I don't know about the keyboard. It is resting facedown on a towel in the bathroom. What to do? It was drenched, when I picked it up, cafe au lait came streaming out. This old keyboard seems to work fine, but it doesn't have a "Start" button.
