<They original question was...is the new Celeron 400, 4x100 or 6x66?>

I think the Celeron 400 is on the 66 MHz bus. Makes sense. Thanks to the on-die 128K L2 cache, Intel can continue to increase the multiplier on the Celeron and get some more performance gains without having to go to more expensive 440BX motherboard and PC100 SDRAM. Plus, this gives marketing a way to differentiate between a 400 MHz Celeron and a 400 MHz Pentium II. When people wonder what the difference is between a Celeron 400 and a Pentium II 400, marketing can say that the Pentium II is on a faster bus.

<The K6-2-400 defaults to the 6x multiplier when the motherboard is set to 2x. So AMD already makes a 6X66 chip although its sold as 4x100.>

The difference is that the K6-2 really needs that 100 MHz bus because of the L2 cache on the motherboard. Even MHz alone isn't going to sell K6-2 400 MHz systems if that system is crippled by a 66 MHz bus.

McMannis - Re: "They original question was...is the new Celeron 400, 4x100 or 6x66?"

I believe it will be 6 x 66 MHz.

Re: " As far as a list of supporting boxmakers for the K7...it's too early for that and AMD still has to execute. "

TOO EARLY ?

TOO EARLY ?

But you said HP, IBM Compaq, etc would BE FIRST IN LINE for the K7 !

Jim - THERE AIN'T NO LINE FOR THE K7 !!!
