Speaking of sparks-I think it was you who did- did you ever put a headlight in your microwave? I was told by someone on SI that it made a great light show but I never tried it because: 1) I was taught never to put ANYTHING metal in a microwave or there would be a nuclear meltdown of some sort and 2) I had no headlights lying around my kitchen.
HOWEVER! At the infamous, though now long past, SI picnic in San Francisco a couple of years ago, this was demonstrated to me by the person himself and it was true. It made a light show and there was no nuclear meltdown Of course we WERE in California which I believe does not observe the same laws of nature the rest of the U.S. does.

Do you think that James Joyce had a problem with his periods too? Does that explain his endless sentences? At the risk of destroying my reputation as a literary being, I will admit that I have never made it through anything of Joyce's. Matter of fact, there's an awful lot of great writers that I don't make it through. However, I have never NOT finished an Ed McBain novel.
