thanks for the helpful reply, richard. this caught my eye... "Their logging of connection attempts by others is also very straightforward and informative." in the 2 weeks that you've been trying out the conseal product, have there been attempts to log on to your system? the thought just crossed my mind that attempted logons could be "staged" for trial users to validate the need for their firewall, but i suppose that's just the cynicism in me coming through. and the prospects of either leaving the door wide open for "crackers" or closing it on yourself are real concerns, i'm certain! i did not realize that pc anywhere broadcasted its presence on the net as you described, but it makes sense. you've given me more to think about. :) just what i needed! thanks again, mark
