An old DJ article:

PHOENIX (Dow Jones)--Petsmart Inc. (PETM) was up 12% in heavy trading
Tuesday, but the company said it knew of no reason for the activity.

"We have made no announcements," a company spokesman said. Petsmart saw "no
reason to indicate why the move (happened) today," the spokesman said.

The Phoenix pet supplies and services retailer's stock was recently at 11
3/4, up 1 3/8 or 13.3%, with 8.1 million shares traded on the Nasdaq. Average
daily volume is 903,075 shares.

The company doesn't announce monthly comparable store sales increases or
decreases, he said. Its current quarter and fiscal year run through January,
and results will are scheduled to be announced Feb. 23.

There was speculation in an Internet message board that Petsmart was being
viewed by some investors as an Internet stock. The company's most recent
quarterly earnings' announcement reported "initial sales from Petsmart Direct's
Internet commerce sites."

The company spokesman said its Internet sales volume was "increasing but
still very, very small."
