The Net's Best Kept Secrets

e-vineyards.com
Has your online wine shopping turned up mostly Californian and only a few French brands? Do some U.S. sites seem to have forgotten that the French grow grapes? If so, we suggest you drop by e-Vineyards.com, a truly French shopping experience. The English is written with a French accent -- "Welcome at the French Wine Shop" it says -- and the pages load at a European leisurely pace, but there's no doubting you're with experts.

The site offers 107 French selections from seven regions and, if they don't have your bottle, they'll search the countryside and get back to you in 48 hours. Just as helpful, they'll fill you in on the world of French wine. Wondering what appellation goes with white fish? Or how long that bottle of Gewurztraminer should sit unopened? e-Vineyards will tell you. They'll also help you stock your own wine cellar and, after you make a purchase, let you into the e-Vineyards club, where you'll get recipes, updates, and inside wine information.

It does cost $25 to ship six bottles (and they sell only in increments of six) but domestic sellers charge roughly the same amount. And if you're concerned about buying by bulk, the e-Vineyard explains that wine can reduce the risk of heart disease by 20-40%.

Thanks for the nice comments on the website. Your favorite image is a good one. It doesn't have foil or leaf or any such "glitz", so that it doesn't attract the attention that some of the others do, but I like the composition. I have a plate in the same colors that is also as expressive of flight. I don't display it often because I am not anxious to sell it.

Kristone is a California sparkler. It is available here in Pa. at the State Stores, so that it should be generally available.
