I think that Iraq has become a convenient whipping boy who can be attacked at little risk -

Enigma,

It may not be politically correct to admit it, but its about oil, or more appropriately, energy. They have it and western nations are dependent upon it.

I certainly do not underestimate Hussein's capability for mischief making. Anyone who reviews his past efforts at creating a military force able to threaten or coerce his neighbors would be surprised at the progress he was able to make.

Whether it was biological and chemical weapons to his attempts are increasing the range of his SCUD missiles, to his contracting Gerald Bull to build his super-cannon aimed at Israel, Hussein has displayed one purpose, that of offensive capibility.

Many analsyts have speculated as to how Persian Excursion #1 would have played out had Hussein proceeded over the Saudi border and captured their major oil fields.

So the question is what does N. Korea threaten? S. Korea? Japan? They don't have any oil....

Realpolitik.

Regards,

Ron
