Jane,

I'll agree to not foist my beliefs on those that don't care to hear, exspecially Lombardi. One final thought,

"We all ended up running into the water to cool off and the two combatants shook hands and laughed it off."

Did all this transpire after "winning was forgotten about?"

I also take your note as a very deep compliment, thank you!!

Ok Story time Jane.

In Saudi i got together with some girls to start a softball team for something for them to do. These were from 6th to 9th graders, because that is as far as the school system went there. The only place they could play outside of school was a woman's league. Some of the girls never played before and some of the teams they played agisnt were fantastic. It would not be unusual for one lady on one of the ARAMCO teams to have more playing years then all my girls together. Some of these ladies were damn good. We only won one game but that was one more then i expected them to. There are several things i will always remember. One is our opening ball game. We batted first and i was standing in the 1st base coaching box when my first batter standing there nervously walked towards me and looked up. "What do I do she asked" I smiled at her and said "Sandy I was hoping you would get up there and hit the ball like we practiced." I could see that was not what she was looking for as she nervously looked around. "No I mean how will I know when to go up there." In side i was laughing so hard at the question yet at the same time was very moved by her innocence. I remember putting my hand on her shoulder and telling her the umpire would signal her to come up. She smiled turned and waited, I'll be darned if she didn't get a single.
OK if you insist one more. We were in the field. They had a runner on first. The ball was hit to the right fielder, I might mention she had never caught a ball and had dropped enough that i felt sorry every time one was hit to her and all the parents knew this. Well she caught it. Her friend at secondbase ran out there and they are hugging and jumping up and down with joy.....as the runner goes to second, then third, I am standing at the dugout, third base side yelling LADIES HELLO LADIES at the same time enjoying every base this girl stole....We lost that game , couldn't tell you the score. Most likely we got shut out....but the only thing that mattered and lives with me are the memories of the girls that bonded together. As a coach i was 1 and 15 maybe 16 for the year. But no one will ever convince me it was a losing season.
