cb, would your sister mind if, 8 years from now, her msft, coke, etal holdings were down 66%? that is the case with the nikkei... it is easy to be confident when corrections last 1 month and aren't for serious losses...

Very true. I bought (even) more CSCO in Sept. I just put it away - no need to track.

But when did she buy her first lot of MSFT ? what did she do 6 years back when CSCO was going thru the expansion phase ? (hypothetically speaking, I know you said she does not possess CSCO, she has MSFT, INTC, KO). Did she wait to buy or did she buy in the evolutionary stage ? In hindsight, which would have been financially more profitable ? Of course her risk profile, asset allocation strategies, age, threshold of pain etc at the time would have determine the entry point.
