Hi Mike-and-Will, I wanted to quote the end of T.S. Eliot's "Hollow Men," about the world ending not with a bang, but a whimper, but the best excerpt I found on the net was too nice to truncate, so you have to suffer through the yucky stuff to get to the end:

Excerpts from: "Of Hollow Men"
T.S. Eliot(1888-1965)

Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
From prayers to broken stone.
Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow
Between the conception
And the creation
Between the emotion
And the response
Falls the Shadow
Between the desire
And the spasm
Between the potency
And the existence
Between the essence
And the descent
Falls the Shadow
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang but a whimper.

Don't some booms end with whimpers, not bangs?<g>
