>>That is why 256mb chips will never
win out over 64mb chips on cost.<<

david, so, if i can buy 1 256 mb chip at less than 4 times the cost of a 64 mb, i'm going to pay MORE for the 64 mb chips so i can be in line with david's economic pair-o-dimes? NOT!

>>You forecasted it 2years earlier
than it actually happened.<g> The need of the 64mb chip drove the selling of it not
the cost. 64mb chips have a lot of life yet. <<

actually, it was more like 6 months. btw, stop looking to the past ;-) within 12-18 months, the cost per bit for a 256 mb chip will be less than 4 64 mb chips. people won't pay more, david, no matter how much you think they will.

16 mb drams go for $3. 64 mb go for $10. now you know why 16 mb chip volume is WAY DOWN and they are sold only for specialty purposes.

same thing will happen with 64 mb and 256 mb. 256 mb will be going for $10 and 64 mb will be going for $3. which are you gonna buy for a 32 mb or 64 mb or 128 mb or 256 mbsimm?

cost is PARAMOUNT in their current decision making process.

btw, i'm still waiting for those 1998 profits you predicted in late 1997. at least 64 mb eventually came...
