OT Solar

Sure -- its way out there for base load and strictly limit to niches now. We need solar electric panels to power the pumps on solar thermal systems, to recharge battery banks for solar thermal house heating. We need solar panelettes to keep car batteries trickle charged, and run remote signal station in the forests, and power fire alarms and cell phone repeaters. The mismatch of the diurnal solar sample means a mismatch for home heating.
In time, all big flat factory roofs will be solar-electric or solar-thermal. Most houses with be covered with beautiful, black semimetalic cells, which snap into each other and produce whatever voltage, and wattage one wishes. In many cities it will become law that shingles are out -- panels are in. But only through a coordinated, subsidized national plan with the devices become cheap and reliable enough. The dream of democratic, decentralized, free solar is, I fear, a dream.
