Just as it popped on 12/31 it drops on 1/4. Alot of stocks, (look at MERQ, CTXS, NETA for others) get "marked" (get the prices increased) by mutual funds on the last day of the year so that they can either

A) show better numbers
B) show they own the "good" names

So price moves on 12/31 are usually not considered "real" and the stock is just moving back to where it was 12/30 (as if 12/31 was a normal, not a "special" trading day)
