Tom, The value of the public companies is easy. John Amopp tracks this value weekly on the SFE thread. On 12/31/98 the N.A.V. of the public companies was $20.59. The value of the private companies is much harder. One analyst estimated this at $10 early last year. They have made many investments since then. Also, the value of their internet investments have increased a great deal. I have no intelligent guess. Their website has much information. www.safeguard.com. Also, you can read the transcript of their conference calls at www.vcall.com. With real player you can listen to the C.C.'s. I have been invested in SFE for many years. bob
