Joey - Re: " K7 could be the most hyped and BIGGEST FLOP of 1999! "

My sense is that AMD will "re-target" the K7 for the Performance Gaming consumer, and market it as a "high end desktop" CPU selling for $175 to $225.

If not, they will have trouble attracting customers.

And a real problem point - the Sharp-Eye chip, with on-chip L2 cache - may OUTPERFORM the K7.

One other possibility:

When AMD realized their K5 was DOG (I mean a DOG !), they held it back for "further testing".

In reality, they had to SHRINK it from the 0.5 micron process to a hastily developed 0.35 micron process in order to get the speed beyond 75 MHz.

Thus, the K7 "may be delayed for further testing" as AMD shrinks it to the -yet-to-be-developed 0.18 micron process.

Joey,

K7 could be the most hyped and BIGGEST FLOP of 1999!

Your logic supporting this statement lies somewhere between nonsense and non-existent.
