David,

The RDRAM interface achieves its high speed by transferring
byte wide data at several hundred MHz. Electrical problems
make it difficult to put too many devices on the bus so very
large devices are necessary if you want to build large modules.

This is why the first users of RDRAM were game machines and
graphics cards that benefit from high speed memory but don't
require a large memory space. This is also the reason why
servers probably won't use RDRAM.
