Tim, IBM+ASND would be a powerful combination if the two cultures could mix amicably. IBM is about the only company out there, aside from CSCO, with real penetration into worldwide network enterprises. At one point in time, IBM was synonomous with data networking because all mainframes used IBM's propietary SNA network. Now SNA is considerd arcane and a necessary evil. Buying ASND could leap frog CSCO and cut to voice/data convergance revolution that has just begun to form.

A merger of this sort might also explain why IBM recently sold its networking division. IBM could be lightening their networking dominance by outright sale to insure that the purchase of new technology such as ASND/Stratus passes the DOJ legal tests for market dominance (or lack thereof).

Although it seems a long shot, if IBM+ASND do have a merger or LOI to do business together ASND would be golden (ie over $100/share!!) and become an instant 800 lbs. gorilla.
