All,

you can easily install DI to NTFS. I gives you the option for creating the boot diskettes when you install. Thats how I had it on my old machine. I booted off floppy to use it.

DO NOT do anything with your
existing setup until we get Spot's approval

For now just planning to do the DI images and boot floppies, then ERD floppies. That is when I can get some time freed up.

You would not be able to execute Drive Image from NT. It is not an
NT executable program. So if you had Drive Image on the same physical drive as NT it would
have to be accessed from something other than NT.

Ok... I've installed DI on FAT IDE 2 to accept images of NT from IDE 1 there. I'll make the bootable floppies as well. That will be my DI setup for NT imaging.

The second is the KOT/utility drive. What if that screws up? How is it restored? .......... I am saying you should make a clone
of the two existing working operating systems now on your machine.

This was another part of my reasoning to have DI on IDE 1 as well as IDE 2.

I do feel it is important to make a Drive Image of both of your OSes as soon as
you feel comfortable with Drive Image.

Yes....I agree.. before ext modem and tape device install. Now just shooting for these Drive Images and various floppy creations.

Drive Image of Drive Image question. Or my
question..how does one restore the KOT?

Yes.....that is the question that I was just formulating there. I thought a copy of DI on primary drive would work to clone the secondary drive just as the secondary DI works to clone the primary NT install.

Partition Magic is now a resident NT installation. You can clone with Partition Magic. With
Partition Magic installed in your primary OS (NT) you can copy the Win98 partition to the end
of the NT drive from the NT environment..ie create a backup of the KOT drive on the NT drive
that is accessible for restore from the NT installation. If the KOT failed you would boot in
the normal fashion to NT..then execute Partition Magic from NT and then clone the KOT clone
back to the KOT drive.

I understand The above based on my current understanding and
subject to revision upon scrutiny. STWWP in effect.
but this would appear to be a way to achieve crossed KOT protection. In the future definitely something to look into. Nice work zp!..
For now though I will take heed of yours, Spots, Daves advice and just do the NT image onto IDE 2.
