They do what many traders do but in much higher volumes. They sell into the top end of the rally until demand is exceeded, place a large sell order at the top of the range and wait for the market to drop back encouraging it along the way by selling a little on the offer bit by bit until the stock is down to the desired level. Then they clean up the stock available buying from the stops and panic selling.

Then placing a large buy order at the low they attempt to start the rally over again. Sometime the rally gains momentum and pulls in the retail investor who knows nothing of this and so up she comes. As soon as it shows sign of stalling they do it all over again. The only monkey wrench which can foil it is significant news. If it is good it extends the rally. If it is bad it lowers the bottom. In the case of KOB the market is itching for good news so it is easy to give the impression that good news is the reason the stock is beginning to move. I got sucked in to DML by the MM's so I am speaking from the imperical point of view. I am not certain this is what is happening but I do have my suspicions. There needs to be news from the company tomorrow to make me really believe this one.
