Tom,
They bought silver and then sold it. So no exposure there.
The gold borrowings and sales are just another part of their derivative trading programs. Going on all over the place. They view what they are doing one way, and we the other.
How did the management of Long Term Capital and all their genius power do what they did. Remember, they had central bank ( Italy and others ) to invest.
