These clubs have been brought up and discussed before. Basically, the 12 CDs for $0.01 are probably oldies or those that nobody wants (I bet you won't find any new releases). Then you would have to pay full price for the rest, which is where they get you. Whereas CCI will let you buy any CDs including new releases at rock bottom prices with a MusicCard, and there is also no time limit.

Hi Rich,

Do the math. The reality is that Columbia house has a very limited stable of artists. Only about 12 to 17,000 titles. They only distribute from their own select list of artists that they have produced the record for or have on contract.
The CD costs less than nothing and then they make their bucks on the member getting stuck with unwanted music from marginally desired artists as time goes by.
Compact Connection is not a club and offers 250,000 titles. They don't mail anything for you to return (Columbia House is changing that but the game of unwanted music will stilll be the same),and with CCI you are under no obligation to ever buy anything in the future. You will save the price of the card in your first 2 or 3 purchases.
There is really no comparison once you understand the difference. Unfortunately there appears to be smilarities when we don't look under the hood. Just takes a bit of explining. Let's hope CCI teaches the kids how to overcome objections.

I received the same offer from Columbia House. I would have been hard pressed to find 12 CD's I wanted from the offered list of 319. They gave tremendous detail about Club rules, etc., but never mentioned the amount of the shipping and handling charges. Wanna bet they're hefty? Regards, Suzanne
