I believe that every agreement made right now has a clear purpose and should not be considered a non-event. The leaders goals are to widen the gap between them and the rest. They recognize the loyalty and usage patterns of users and are building upon them. SEEK wants to first of all hold its market share and then hopefully gain. It is a difficult task, no matter what business sector one is in, but if they truly have a better idea, they will find new users who will switch from their old usage pattern. AOL and Yahoo appear to be looking at the success of Microsoft and are moving in for more. They have no intent in giving up anything and they are pushing hard. In their position and with their name recognition, that makes the others jobs even that more difficult. It appears that the columnists and analysts in most articles always mention the big 3, YHOO, AOL, & AMZN. These companies have distinguished themselves and are being fed to us repeatedly daily. New users will tend to check out names that they are most familiar with, and it appears use them. SEEK with its DIS relationship is responding with their approach to this market. So far, the majority of articles are tepid on the beta version. It has not differentiated itself sufficiently for it to be recognized by those who do not have a stake in the company. This is only the beta version and I would expect it to be improved in the next months. I expect to see more favorable reviews forthcoming when those changes occur. SEEK has projected large losses for the upcoming years. This confirms how difficult their plan is, yet it also shows their commitment to it. Everything being new in this sector, no one knows for sure what will be successful and will work. YHOO reports next week I believe. No one can agree on what their numbers will do for the sector. If they are strong, is that damaging to the competitors or is it good for everyone? If they do not meet expectations, is it bad news for the sector or good news for competitors? Eventually fundamentals become an issue.AOL and CBS in a deal so what happens to seek abc on AOL?? Over here in ASIA it is sometimes difficult to keep up but I really believe this is a nonevent for seek- they will keep chugging along and I believe by the end of this year they will ROCKET!!
