MicroNet Ships Ultra2 Drives and Arrays

Provides Increased Cable Lengths, Higher SCSI Reliability and Faster Throughput at a Lower Cost

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--MicroNet Technology Inc., an innovator of storage technology, is now shipping Ultra2 hard drives and arrays for its award winning 2-bay DataDock and fixed arrays.

Ultra2 SCSI provides double the performance, a cleaner SCSI signal than single-ended Ultra SCSI and allows for longer cable lengths of up to 75 feet. More cost effective than high-voltage differential, Ultra2 solutions are available now at prices ranging from $1,140 to $3,845 SRP.

MicroNet's unique implementation consists of a newly designed DataDock backplane and drive module interface board. Since Ultra2 SCSI is backward compatible, the new design gives customers the option of utilizing new Ultra2 devices or their existing single-ended Ultra SCSI DataDock modules. Customers that use Ultra2 devices in the Ultra2 DataDock will experience the highest level of performance with transfer rates up to 80MB/second.

If single-ended SCSI devices such as hard drives, magneto optical and DAT DataDock modules are used in DataDock Ultra2, users will achieve single-ended transfer rates up to 40MB/second. With embedded drivers and receivers on the SCSI chips, Ultra2 SCSI is also less expensive than high-voltage differential SCSI.

DataDock Ultra2 suggested retail pricing ranges from $2,280 for an 18GB DataDock array to $3,845 for a 36GB array. Fixed array pricing starts at $2,055 for an 18GB array to $3,245 for a 36GB array. Individual DataDock modules range in price from $1,140 for a 9GB drive to $1,920 for an 18GB drive.
