AMZN does 3 for 1 split today

CORRECTED - Amazon.com fourth-quarter sales

In SEATTLE story headlined ''Amazon.com fourth-quarter sales hit $250 million'' please read, in first paragraph ''...or $1 billion on an annualized basis'' instead of ''...putting annual sales at $1 billion for 1998.''

Corrects statement that 1998 revenues reached $1 billion.

A corrected version follows:

SEATTLE, Jan 5 (Reuters) - Internet bookseller Amazon.com (Nasdaq:AMZN - news) said on Tuesday its fourth-quarter sales reached $250 million, over three and a half times last year's levels, or $1 billion on an annualized basis.

Increased sales at Amazon.com, a giant among Internet retailers, adds to the evidence that shoppers are flocking to the Web. Online service provider America Online Inc. (NYSE:AOL - news) said on Monday that its subscribers spent $1.2 billion on its network, the online equivalent of a shopping mall, during the holiday season.
