Thanks Red, Jill, Greta, and Becki, for the sweet comments! The new assignment at ABC is really exciting, but I'm going to miss doing reports for viewers like you, who are educated, aware, and interested. (Not that ABC's viewers aren't...but you guys are very motivated...like an honors class in college). No one at CNBC has ever suggested we talk down to the audience -- and frankly, most of you know more about the market and business than I do. But I've learned a lot and done some stories I'm really proud of.

And I don't think your allegiances are misguided: CNBC has the largest group of really bright, knowledgeable and talented reporters/anchors/producers of any network I've ever worked for (and I can now admit to having worked for ALL of them -- except CNN).

I'm grateful to the folks who run the network, too, for giving me the freedom to stretch the definition of "business news" and for not standing in my way when it was time to move on.

It's a great network -- there's never been anything like it. And they continue to do it right.

Thanks again for all the wonderful messages. I hope 1999 is even better for all of you than 1998 was.

All the best,

Don Dahler
