I don't particularly care to discuss the details of the Paula Jones suit. I don't know that much about the legal details. I know it had political backing right from the start. And I know that the perjury is still just an allegation, and it's far from clear whether a conviction could be obtained under normal circumstances. Not to mention the far greater doubt that charges would even be filed under normal circumstances. Remember, the case is settled now. And before it was settled, it was dismissed, though the dismissal was under appeal. And, of course, the House voted down the Paula Jones perjury article anyway. 3 levels of mootness there. How many do you need?

Regardless, there's the "treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors" question. Some argue that "high crimes and misdemeanors" means any legal offense. I'd argue that the treason and bribery part is a reasonable guide, and the misleading testimony in a politically motivated civil suit just doesn't cut it. You're free to disagree. But the procedure is both legal and political, and at this point, I'd say it's pretty doubtful that the current charges will get Clinton removed. That's life. There's plenty of political things that happen that I don't like. In fact, I don't much like the way national politics works in general. But I think government by lobbyists and the campaign funding rat race that puts everybody up for sale is a much bigger problem than Clinton and "truth and justice" in the Paula Jones case, and getting rid of Clinton won't do anything to fix than. Nor will a protracted trial on the current charges. It'd give Henry Hyde and the House Hotheads another opportunity to strut their stuff, though. Which, from an entertainment perspective, is fine by me. Politically speaking, fine by me too.
