China's Largest Commercial Bank Selects FVC.COM Products for Interactive Video Network

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 5, 1999--FVC.COM (Nasdaq:FVCX), the leading provider of networked video applications, today announced that the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) has installed and deployed an interactive video network that uses FVC.COM equipment to integrate voice, video and data.

The initial installation is in the Bank's worldwide headquarters building in Beijing, where it is being used for video conferencing and MPEG-2 video-on-demand applications. The network will be expanded to the main ICBC branch in Beijing, where a new state-of-the-art building is nearing completion. ICBC is the largest commercial bank in China and one of the ten largest banks in the world.

The two ICBC buildings are equipped with an IBM ATM backbone network to support the Bank's heavy use of video networking for decision support, remote meetings and distance training. More than 100 users at the headquarters building are video-enabled and up to 40 people can participate in one or more group videoconferences simultaneously.

The Bank's training staff can capture lectures or demonstrations, store them efficiently and access them later for instructional purposes. MPEG-2 video-on-demand allows employees to access these training materials at their desktops with guaranteed Quality of Service (QoS).

"Our customers recognize the benefits of leading-edge video networking solutions to enhance business performance," said Ralph Ungermann, Chairman of FVC.COM. "By leveraging FVC.COM equipment, ICBC will be able to substantially improve business communications and employee training."

ICBC will consider further expansion of its network once the new Beijing office has been completed.
